Kirsty Manger is a ceramic artist based on the Surf Coast, Wadawurrung land, Victoria, Australia where she lives with her partner Tim, their two sons Luis and Ash and Roxy dog.
With formal training at the Canberra School of Art and additional mentorship under Neville French at the School of Clay, Melbourne, Kirsty has honed her craft into a distinctive and refined practice.
Before fully dedicating herself to ceramics, Kirsty spent 18 years in advertising, where she developed a unique skill set that blends open-minded creativity with the practical demands of working to deadlines, managing projects, and collaborating with clients...
Kirsty thrives on collaboration, working closely with individuals, organisations, chefs and business owners to bring their visions to life. She specialises in developing and producing conceptual works with high-quality, beautifully refined forms and surfaces that tell a story.
Her public and community ceramic art murals, commissioned by the Surf Coast Shire, can be seen at playgrounds in Jan Juc, Torquay, Anglesea and Camperdown. In addition to these public installations, Kirsty has designed and developed limited-edition tableware, architectural ceramic tile murals, pendant lights, and basins for private clients. Projects that are among her favourites.
Recently, Kirsty is developed a range of tableware in collaboration with chef Tobin Kent of Moonah, a fine dining restaurant in Connewarre, Victoria. In this project, she explored the use of locally sourced clay and created zero-waste glazes from materials like shells, sea glass, used coffee grinds and local clay.
In 2023, Kirsty was selected as a finalist in the Klytie Pate Ceramic Award. Her unique ceramic sculptures, created through a combination of wheel throwing and hand-building techniques, have been exhibited at the Melbourne City Library and are showcased annually at The Hive Gallery in Ocean Grove.
Over the past eight years, Kirsty has also enjoyed sharing her expertise through private, one-on-one classes held at her home studio as part of Desa Retreat. Guests have the chance to learn some new skills, explore their creativity and bring their imagination to life with clay to create their very own unique art work in a relaxed and friendly environment with Kirsty’s undivided attention.
When she’s not in the studio, working with clients, or sourcing clay, Kirsty draws inspiration from nature. She enjoys walking Roxy, riding her horse, hiking with family and friends, and ocean swimming along the spectacular Surf Coast.
